a chaotic shambles

Bad Morning

with one comment

When I got to work today there were cockroaches climbing all over the building and cockroaches scurrying all over the floor.  I started stamping on a few of them in anger, then someone pointed behind me and I turned to see hundreds of the nasty blighters all over the road.  On closer inspection, they were surfacing from a drain in the centre of the crossroads on which my office stands.  This was not how I planned to start my day.

I marched off to the police station to report the incident and was told that the environmental health people had chucked loads of cockroach poison down there, because the whole town stops for fiestas this week, so the evil little things had surfaced to escape the noxious fumes.  They would die soon, I was assured.

I went back and got my fly spray and broom and went about them for a bit, but the tide was turning and they were slowly giving in to the inevitable effects of the poison and my Israeli-like disproportionate assault on their rather lame attempts to take over my office suite.

By lunchtime there were virtually none left, just a sea of polka dot brown smudges where their mangled remains had been squashed into the road surface by passing cars and noisy children.  Probably not how they intended to spend their day either.
